About Us
Airway Surgical Appliance, Ltd is one of the leading home healthcare manufacturers and distributors in Canada. Founded in 1895 as the Ottawa Truss & Surgical Company (“OTC”) the company settled a block from Parliament on Sparks Street. Originally the company served as a retail outlet with fitters on the ground floor and manufacturing occupying the top floors.
Over the years the company’s product line has expanded with the times, with emphasis shifting from trusses to orthopedic garments and compression hosiery since the 1930s.
In 1935, OTC purchased the Windsor Truss Company and the Toronto Elastic Hosiery Company. The Toronto Elastic Hosiery Company manufactured compression hosiery stockings and sold them under the popular Truform brand name. At present we are re-introducing this once popular brand name of compression hosiery to the Canadian marketplace.
In the 1950’s we entered into the mobility and convalescent aids product category and in the 1960’s entered into mastectomy.
Today Airway’s Therapeutic products are divided into five major brand categories:
- Truform-Airway PLUS Therapeutic Compression Hosiery: A sensible mix of the most commonly prescribed styles at a price point significantly lower than leading brands.
- OTC Professional Orthopedics: A complete line of professionally fitted retail packaged supports and prescription off-the-shelf products for the spine and extremities.
- Champion Health & Sports Supports: A general mix of comfortable, everyday sports active braces in pediatric, youth and adult styles and sizes
- Airway Mastectomy: Products for women who have had surgery for breast cancer, including breast forms, bras and accessory items.
- PCP Homecare and Mobility Products: Manufacturer and distributor of mobility and home convalescent aids.
Airway continues to manufacture the vast majority of our products in our Ottawa plant. Since our inception our product line has expanded beyond hernia trusses to the larger home healthcare market.
Airway’s mission has never has been to simply "stay the course", rather it has been to expect and respect change in the industry and be prepared to act quickly on what you hear, see, and most importantly, feel. Not only is this what Airway has done consistently in the past, it is what continues to guide it toward the future.
